Palm, Inc. has announced that it plans to distribute the shares of PalmSource, which develops and licenses the Palm operating system, to Palm shareholders in the first half of this year, pending approval of the distribution from the Palm Board of Directors. The company received a ruling today from the Internal Revenue Service that a proposed distribution of PalmSource shares will be tax-free to Palm and its U.S. shareholders for federal income tax purposes.

Dell, maker of the Axim X5 line of Pocket PCs, has released the results from its most recent financial quarter. The computer giant had revenues of $9.7 billion and posted a profit of
