Research in Motion is going to increase the amount of RAM in its RIM 857 wireless Handheld from 5MB to 8MB, without increasing its cost.
Samsung is demonstrating its NEXiO line of handhelds at COMDEX in Las Vegas and in France this week. These run Windows CE and offer built-in wireless networking. Instead of handhelds’ typical orientation, these devices have been designed to be held horizontally. They include large screens and are therefore a bit larger than the typical handheld.

Research in Motion (RIM), a company with a reputation for bringing frequent patent infringement lawsuits against its competitors, has itself lost a patent infringement suit brought against it by NTP Inc. A federal court has ruled that RIM has infringed on five NTP patents related to wirelessly transferring email and ordered the company to pay $23.1 million.
